Experience Counts!

Angel Reyes, President of the Puerto Rico Regional Group of the Blinded Veterans Association has years of military experience organizing teams to accomplish objectives in a direct and efficient manner.  With the help of Ruben Sanchez, Secretary-Treasurer, BVA, Matthew Hogel, Chief of the BRC, and with the support and encouragement of Actel Román, Chief of Staff of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, Angel is managing a team effort to meet the needs of Puerto Rico’s Blind Veterans, plus other Veterans in unimaginably difficult situations since Hurricane Maria.

Hurricane Maria’s devastation was terrible, but the aftermath could turn out to be even worse. Continued long-term lack of electricity to 80% of the island’s population is creating health risks for handicapped people who depend on respirators, oxygen generators, ventilators, suction or home dialysis equipment.  Water pumping stations and waste treatment facilities are largely out of service, causing sanitation problems to multiply and disease to spread.  Continuing rain has brought hordes of mosquitoes (Zika) and other water-borne illnesses to every area. Blind Vets must cope with these problems on top of dealing with their disability. We can help them  and you can be a part of this Team!
